Reva Development Partners

Reva Development Partners

We needed to build a site that was both visually striking and much more polished than the existing site and the competing sites, and also added functionality specific to REVA’s needs as a property development company. Broadly speaking, the requirements broke down into three areas: the home page slider, the project pages, and the press room–not to mention the documentation. Continue Reading Reva Development Partners

Safe Port Financial Associates, LLC

Safe Port Financial Associates, LLC

This is a very simple business website, but there were a few challenges in building it, mostly associated with CSS, parallax, and background images. All in all, the site was more difficult to build than the straightforward content would suggest, but the important thing is that the client is happy with it. Continue Reading Safe Port Financial Associates, LLC

Your Mental Health First

Your Mental Health First

Dr. Melanie Watkins needed a new site for her podcast, videos, and forthcoming books. By strategically modifying the Shimmer theme from Viva la Violette, I created a magazine-layout site to showcase her content. Continue Reading Your Mental Health First

Appliance 911

Appliance 911

Appliance 911 is a family-owned business that does high-end appliance repair in Contra Costa County. The business manager had attempted to create a site herself using Yahoo’s page builder, but that didn’t go so well. Since the client had a limited budget and also very limited content, we decided to go with a simple one-page site using Centric Pro. Continue Reading Appliance 911

Aspen Center for Cosmetic Medicine

Aspen Center for Cosmetic Medicine

Aspen Center for Cosmetic Medicine seriously needed a website redesign. Not only was their existing site not mobile-friendly, it was actually broken, or at least, full of broken images. The website was completely at odds with the company’s brand. The new site is simple, beautiful, and responsive. Continue Reading Aspen Center for Cosmetic Medicine

Radiant Body Yoga

Radiant Body Yoga

Kia Miller’s new Radiant Body Yoga site required e-commerce, events, video management, faceted search, and a teacher directory. Design by Danielle Avila. Continue Reading Radiant Body Yoga

BACN

BACN

I’d moved the BACN site from Joomla to WordPress in an epic site upgrade in 2013. It was a comparatively easy job to change to the Daily Dish Pro child theme, though I needed to update the single and archive pages for the custom post types (Programs, Creating Connections, Bits & Bytes, Members’ Forum). Continue Reading BACN

Used Laser Center

Used Laser Center

After launching the new Berman Partners website, Rob Berman discovered that the used laser page was the one everyone wanted to see, so we created a completely new e-commerce website: Used Laser Center. The site relies on WooCommerce and the Envy Pro theme. Continue Reading Used Laser Center

Berman Partners

Berman Partners

I met Rob Berman on LinkedIn many years ago; he was the one who gave me the referral for the CBICT website. His own business is selling lasers. He called me when he ran into trouble setting up the theme. Based on the Executive Pro child theme for the Genesis framework.

Dr. Claudia Six

Dr. Claudia Six

I’d helped Claudia Six with her Erotic Integrity podcast back in 2007. By 2014 she was working on a book, and her old HTML website drastically needed an overhaul. I made extensive use of the Page List plugin on this site, and spent an enormous amount of time looking for appropriate stock photos. The site… Continue Reading Dr. Claudia Six

CVC Group

CVC Group

Hunter Hastings and Jeff Saperstein both teach at Hult. We added a Publications post type to display their journal publications and PowerPoint files, and a video post type for their presentations, and made extensive use of Gravity Forms. Based on the Enterprise Pro theme for Genesis.

BAIPA

BAIPA

The Bay Area Independent Publishers Association had a membership site on Wild Apricot, an old HTML website, and a newer WordPress blog. Part of the job was to combine everything and particularly to set up nice membership profiles. We then needed FacetWP to set up faceted search for members by location and specialty. Based on… Continue Reading BAIPA

The Official BNI Podcast

The Official BNI Podcast

I’d made a few improvements to the Official BNI Podcast site since taking it over in 2007, but it was time for a responsive design. The difficult thing was adhering to the corporate style guide, which had the wrong hex code equivalents for the Pantone colors. The podcast appears every week and uses the excellent… Continue Reading The Official BNI Podcast

Congregation Beth Israel of Connecticut

Congregation Beth Israel of Connecticut

I built CBICT a website in 2011 using the Lifestyle Theme, then created a mobile stylesheet for it. But the members of the congregation needed a better mobile experience. We were all delighted when Lifestyle Pro appeared. I had a bit of an adventure with the upgrade, though: it turned out that a large part… Continue Reading Congregation Beth Israel of Connecticut

Ripp Leadership

Ripp Leadership

Mara Connolly was one of those clients who came to us with a completed design for a deceptively simple site. We had to make a few changes to the designer’s ideas based on the way the theme would display in smaller browsers. Theme built from the basic Genesis Child. And no, there is not that… Continue Reading Ripp Leadership

Transform Electric

Transform Electric

I met Leo Portugal in 2011 when he came to my apartment in El Cerrito to give me a quote about a possible upgrade. It turned out that apartment was pretty hopeless when it came to electricity, hence the move out to Oakley. A couple of years later he asked me to build him a… Continue Reading Transform Electric

Montclair Veterinary Hospital

Montclair Veterinary Hospital

Montclair Veterinary Hospital is owned by long-time clients Gary and Lee Richter in Oakland. They keep expanding their pet-related business empire. We started the project just before Genesis 2.0 came out, so built it on the basic Genesis Child theme, as the child theme we were considering hadn’t been upgraded to HTML 5 yet.

Scheer Security

Scheer Security

The real adventure in building this site for Oakley’s Scheer Security was the domain transfer from DreamHost (which has dreadful domain management tools, or did at the time) to Namecheap so that we could move the site onto WP Engine. Theme is the Legacy child theme for Genesis from Appfinite, one I considered for my… Continue Reading Scheer Security

Berkeley Housing Counselor

Berkeley Housing Counselor

We built this site with features like WalkScore…and the client ended up getting a full-time day job and never rtook it live. I really like the way the design turned out, though. Theme is based on the Ally child theme for Genesis from Appfinite.

Kimmy’s Cakes

Kimmy’s Cakes

The owner of this site is the daughter-in-law of someone who served on the Oakley Chamber board with me in 2012. As you can see, Kimmy makes amazing art cakes for birthdays, weddings, and any other occasion you want. The theme is the Adorable child theme for the Genesis framework, from Pretty Darn Cute Designs.… Continue Reading Kimmy’s Cakes

Talon Tours

Talon Tours

Ken Wilson leads eco-friendly birding tours to South America, Australia, and New Zealand—plus a few in the United States. He needed to upgrade his photo galleries and add event registration. The theme is based on the Optimal child theme for Genesis, from Appfinite. We added custom taxonomies for bird species and tour locations.

Oakley Chamber of Commerce

Oakley Chamber of Commerce

Membership profiles on the Oakley Chamber site include social media links, maps, a large free-form content area, a photo gallery, and a place to display events, jobs, and special offers for that company. The idea was not only to upgrade the existing website, but to create a member directory far superior to anything available from the standard chamber web solutions. Continue Reading Oakley Chamber of Commerce
